Why do I need a Multiple Exit and Re-entry Permit (MERP)?

A Multiple Exit and Re-entry Permit (MERP) is required for foreign residents in Indonesia who hold a stay permit (e.g., KITAS or KITAP). It gives you official written permission to leave and re-enter Indonesia legally while your stay permit remains valid.

You need a MERP if:

  • you plan to travel internationally and return to Indonesia, or

  • you have already left Indonesia without an EPO, and need to re-enter legally

Without a MERP, your stay permit becomes invalid once you leave the country, and you may face issues re-entering Indonesia.

Answer Applicable to : MERP for KITAS and KITAP
