VOA vs e VOA: What Are The Differences
A Visa on Arrival (VOA) is a type of visa you can get when you land at Indonesian territory. It’s perfect for short visits, whether you’re there for tourism, business, or just to see friends. The VOA is a single-entry visa, meaning you can stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days with it. If you want to stay longer, you can extend it once for another 30 days. After that, you’ll need to leave the country and get a new visa if you plan to come back.
There are 2 types of Visa on Arrival you can apply; the offline Visa on Arrival and the Electronic Visa on Arrival. The main distinction between VOA and e-VOA is simple: with a Visa on Arrival (VOA), you get your visa when you land in Indonesia, while the e-VOA, an electronic visa (e-visa), allows you to apply online before you travel. Both types can be extended online.
e-VOA Application Requirements & Procedure
1. Access the Official e-VOA Website
Go to the official government portal run by Indonesian immigration for e-VOA applications at evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
If users face any issues during the application process, they should follow the request procedure by contacting the e-VOA support desk.
2. Register and Create an Account
- Begin by creating an account on the website. You’ll be asked to provide your email address and create a password.
- After registering, check your email inbox for a verification message from the site. This email will contain a link that you must click within one hour to activate your account.
3. Login and Start Your Application
- After activating your account, return to the website and log in using your credentials.
- Once logged in, choose the “e-VOA” option from the available visa types. You’ll need to fill in several details, including:
- Personal Information: Full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, and passport number.
- Travel Information: Your intended date of arrival, the port of entry, and your accommodation details in Indonesia.
- The e-VOA is available to passport holders from the following countries: United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
- You must upload a high-quality scan or photo of the biography page of your passport (the page with your personal information and photo). The passport must be valid for at least six months from your entry date into Indonesia.
4. Upload Your Documents
- Required Documents:
- Passport Scan: A clear image of the biography page of your passport in JPG/JPEG/PNG format.
- Passport Photo: A recent passport-size photograph with dimensions 35 mm by 45 mm and a resolution of 600 dpi, also in JPG/JPEG/PNG format.
- File Specifications: Ensure that your uploads meet the specified file formats and size limits to avoid errors during submission.
5. Make the Payment
- Visa Fee: The fee for the e-VOA is IDR 500,000 (around USD 32). Payment can be made using a credit or debit card from Mastercard, Visa, or JCB. The card used does not need to be in your name, but it must support international transactions and have 3D Secure enabled.
- Payment Process: Once you reach the payment page, you have 120 minutes to complete the transaction. If the payment isn’t processed within this time, you will need to start the application process again from the beginning.
- Payment Confirmation: After payment, you will receive a confirmation on the website, and your e-VOA application will be processed.
6. Receive Your e-VOA
- Processing Time: Typically, the e-VOA is processed within minutes. You will receive a confirmation email with a PDF of your e-VOA attached. This document is also accessible from your account on the MOLINA website.
- Document Storage: Keep a soft copy of your e-VOA on your smartphone or tablet, and it’s recommended to print a hard copy as well. The e-Visa is embedded in your passport and is recognized as soon as it is scanned upon entry. The additional copies are for security purposes only, should there be any difficulties.
7. Arrival in Indonesia
- Present Your e-VOA: Upon arriving in Indonesia, scan your passport at the ‘autogates’. This machine will verify your visa and let you pass.
- Customs Declaration: It’s advisable to complete your customs declaration online before your arrival to speed up the process at the airport.
8. Validity and Extensions
- Stay Duration: The e-VOA permits a stay of up to 30 days in Indonesia.
- Extension: If you need to stay longer, the e-VOA can be extended once for an additional 30 days. You can apply for this extension through your account on the MOLINA website.
- Important Note: The e-VOA is valid for entry within 90 days of issuance, so ensure you travel within this period, or you’ll need to apply for a new visa.
Dealing with Unsuccessful Transactions and Application Errors
- Common Issues: Users may encounter issues like unsuccessful transactions, missing payment links, or postal code errors during the application process. It’s recommended to double-check your details and ensure all information is accurate before submission. If you encounter any issues, kindly inform the e-VOA support desk for assistance.
- Corrections: If you make a mistake in your application, you can sometimes correct it through your MOLINA account. If this option is unavailable, you may need to contact Indonesian immigration directly for assistance.
How to Extend the VOA
For the VOA extension (visa bought at the airport and online) you can apply for the extension online and verify the extension at the nearest immigration office afterwards. Therefore, you have to go to immigration with your passport and have your photo and fingerprints taken. Also, please be respectful of Indonesian Culture, not to wear short pants, tank tops, or bikinis, only when you visit Immigration.
The extension process will take approximately 10 working days, excluding Saturday and Sunday, or another public holiday to complete this process.
This visa can only be extended two weeks before it expires. Visit evisa.imigrasi.go.id and follow the steps below:
- Select Extend my Visa.
- Input your details and select Find.
- If the system recognizes your visa or stay permit, you can extend it online by updating your current address.
- Choose a payment option:
- Credit Card: Pay with a valid Mastercard, Visa, or JCB credit card. The payment status updates in one minute, and the stay permit is issued immediately.
- Simponi: Pay using Simponi. The payment status takes 1-2 hours to update, and you can download the stay permit extension once it updates.
If you registered an account when you applied for the visa, you can log in to your account (input the email and the password, tick the captcha) and submit. After logging in, go to Extend, then select the green button on your right screen. The process will be the same as above.
