Support Villa Kitty Foundation: Help Us Save Bali’s Abandoned Cats and Kittens
Located in Tegal Bingin Mas, Villa Kitty Foundation has been a sanctuary for Bali’s abandoned cats and kittens since its establishment in 2009. Born in a small corner of a dog shelter, Villa Kitty moved to its premises in March 2011, creating a refuge for needy felines. The foundation now spans 3,500 square meters, offering its residents a safe and nurturing environment.
A Sanctuary for Felines
Villa Kitty is more than just a shelter; it is a vibrant, colorful, and organized sanctuary where disadvantaged cats and dogs are honored, treated, loved, and adopted. The shelter comprises various buildings and areas, each designed with the specific needs of its residents in mind.
The Graduates and Anggun’s House: Shaded by beautiful Ketepang trees and surrounded by spacious gardens, these pavilions provide a serene environment for cats that have completed their vaccinations and are ready for adoption.
The Playground & Learning Centre: This area hosts study groups, educational programs, and community events, such as Villa Kitty’s vegan Sunday lunches. These lunches are open to everyone who wishes to spend time with the Villa Kitty family.
The Mothers Rooms: These comfortable rooms offer a secure space for mother cats and their babies. Here, mothers can nurture their kittens in a peaceful environment.
Inez & Friends: This pavilion is home to Inez, a cerebellar hypoplasia (wobbly) kitten, and her friends. The area is designed to cater to the special needs of cats with this condition.
Sun House and Central Park: These pavilions house cats that are fully vaccinated, sterilized, and ready for adoption. Sun House is for younger cats under two years old, while Central Park is for older cats.
The Nursery: Skilled staff care for tiny kittens in the nursery, providing bottle feeding and comfort. The nursery also serves as a quarantine area for new arrivals, ensuring they receive their vaccinations before mingling with other residents.
The Quarantine Building: This facility houses kittens and cats undergoing their vaccination process, keeping them safe until they are ready for adoption.
The Kitten Kindy, Momo’s Room, and the Bale: These adoption centers are special places where kittens that have completed their vaccinations and sterilizations await their forever homes.
The Hospital and Clinic
Villa Kitty’s Hospital has three sections: Kitten, Respiratory, and Annex.
Kitten Section: This area has three rooms for kittens with the feline virus Panleukopenia, those showing symptoms but testing negative, and recovering kittens.
Respiratory Ward: This ward is for cats suffering from cat flu. It opens to a small garden, allowing cats to enjoy sunshine and fresh air.
The Annex: This area is for cats with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) or older cats needing a peaceful environment. It features an open-plan area with a small garden for morning sunshine.
Villa Kitty also has a temporary Clinic and Surgery, which, while still a work in progress, offers a clean and safe environment for medical procedures. The foundation’s vets work tirelessly to manage the health and well-being of all residents.
Adoption and Fostering
Adoption is Villa Kitty’s most sought-after goal. Preparing cats and kittens for their new homes involves comprehensive care, socialization, and ensuring they are healthy and ready for adoption. Villa Kitty encourages adopting pairs of kittens to aid in their social development, as siblings or companions provide essential learning and companionship.
Foster families play a crucial role by providing temporary homes for unvaccinated kittens, keeping them safe from shelter-related risks. Fostering not only saves lives but also spreads awareness about the joys and responsibilities of caring for kittens.
Sterilization and Vaccination
Villa Kitty offers free sterilization services three times a month, working with Bali Pet Crusaders and Drh Eko. They book up to 20 cats each Sterilization Day and offer free sterilization of male kittens by appointment. Vaccinations start as early as six weeks and continue every 3-4 weeks to protect against the prevalent Panleukopenia virus.
Rescue Efforts
Cats and kittens are often found on the streets, in garbage bins, and around hotels, villas, and restaurants. Villa Kitty responds to calls from rescuers, always prioritizing the search for the mother of tiny kittens. Prepared with cat milk replacer, bottles, and hot water bottles, the foundation is ready to provide immediate care. Villa Kitty collaborates with Sunset Vet Bali for support with difficult cases.
