Although both MERP and EPO relate to exiting Indonesia, they serve very different purposes:
MERP – Multiple Exit and Re-entry Permit
A MERP allows foreigners holding a stay permit (e.g., KITAS eller KITAP) to:
-
lämna Indonesien, och
-
re-enter while their stay permit remains valid.
Without a MERP, your stay permit becomes ogiltig as soon as you exit the country.
MERP = You leave and come back.
EPO – Exit Permit Only
En EPO is used when you:
-
permanently leave Indonesia, eller
-
terminate your KITAS/KITAP.
Once the EPO is issued, your stay permit is officially closed, and you must leave Indonesia. After an EPO, you cannot re-enter using the old permit — you must apply for a new visa.
EPO = You leave and do NOT come back under the same permit.
