KITAS is the abbreviation of “Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas,” or “Limited Stay Permit Card.” It is an official document issued to foreigners who want to stay in Indonesia for an extended period. It grants legal residency and certain privileges, such as the ability to open bank accounts, obtain a driver’s license, and access various services available to residents. It grants the holder the right to legally reside in Indonesia for a specific duration, usually for employment, business, or family-related reasons; and is obtained through a sponsorship process, typically by an Indonesian employer, a spouse who is an Indonesian citizen, or a foreigner who meets specific criteria for residency.
