Indonesia Visa Flight Cancellation: What Does This Mean for Your Indonesia Visa?
Last updated: March 2, 2026
Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, several major flight routes through hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other airports in the region are currently restricted. As a result, many travelers heading to Indonesia are experiencing flight cancellations, delays, and rebookings.
Understandably, many travelers with booked trips to Indonesia are now asking questions such as:
- Is my Indonesia visa still valid if I enter later than planned?
- Do I need to apply for a new visa?
- What happens if my flight details change?
- What if I can’t leave Indonesia on time?
- Will I have to pay an overstay fine immediately?
In this article, we explain clearly and objectively how the current situation may affect your Indonesia visa — and what you should be aware of right now.
Is My Indonesia Visa Tied to a Fixed Entry Date?
No — and this is a major relief for many travelers. An Indonesian e-visa (such as the e-Visa on Arrival atau yang C1 Visa Pelancong) is not tied to a specific entry date. What matters is not your originally booked flight date, but the validity window of your visa.
90 Days to Enter Indonesia
From the date your visa is issued, you have 90 days to enter Indonesia. On your visa PDF, you will see the note:
“Must use before”
You must enter Indonesia before this date. If your flight is postponed or rebooked, your visa remains valid — as long as you enter before the expiration of this 90-day period. In this case, you do not need to apply for a new visa.
However, if your new travel date falls outside of this 90-day window, you will need to apply for a new visa.
What Happens If My Flight Details Change?
If your airline rebooks your flight or you choose a different connection, the following details may change:
- Flight number
- Arrival date
- Arrival time
In this case, you should complete your Arrival Card (Electronic Arrival Declaration) again using the correct updated information. If you booked your Arrival Card through us, please send us your new flight details so we can update the document accordingly.
Why Is This Important?
The Arrival Card contains your current entry details. If these do not match your actual flight, it may cause delays during immigration processing.
Is Entry to Indonesia Currently Possible?
As of now, entry to Indonesia remains fully possible. The current issues primarily affect certain flight routes through the Middle East — not Indonesia itself. There are currently:
- No general entry bans
- No visa suspensions
- No official restrictions for tourists
However, airlines may independently adjust routes. We recommend checking directly with your airline for the latest updates.
What If I Cannot Leave Indonesia on Time?
If you are already in Indonesia and your return flight is delayed due to cancellations or rebookings, the following points are important:
1. You Can Still Extend Your Visa
If it becomes clear that you cannot leave Indonesia on time, you should apply for a visa extension as early as possible. The sooner you act, the less stressful the situation will be.
We recommend:
- Do not wait until the last day
- Act as soon as it becomes clear your flight is delayed
- Check whether your visa can still be extended
- Seek professional assistance if needed
If you are unsure about your options, feel free to contact us. We will review your individual case and assist you with the extension if possible.
2. If You Can No Longer Extend Your Visa
Each visa type has a maximum number of allowed extensions:
- e-Visa on Arrival: extendable once for 30 days
- C1 Tourist Visa: extendable twice for 60 days each
If you can no longer extend your visa under normal conditions, Indonesian Immigration has published a special regulation. You may apply for an additional 30-day extension (Emergency Stay Permit), regardless of your visa type. To do this, you must personally visit the nearest Immigration Office and explain your situation. You must bring:
- Your passport
- Current stay permit
- Proof that your flight was canceled from the airline
Suspension of Overstay Fines
Immigration has announced that no overstay fine will be charged if your delayed departure is clearly and verifiably due to flight disruptions. You must be able to provide official proof that your flight was canceled. However, this is considered an emergency solution. You should still arrange your visa extension as soon as possible.
Official Overstay Regulation (Standard Rule)
The legal overstay fine is: 1,000,000 Indonesian Rupiah per day (approx. €60 / about $65 per day). This fine applies for each day of overstay. A longer overstay may also negatively impact future entries into Indonesia. For this reason, we strongly recommend taking action early.
Alternative Exit Options
If an extension is not possible, an alternative departure route or a short visa run may be an option. For example, departures via:
- Kuala Lumpur
- Singapura
These hubs are often well connected and may offer alternative international routes. Please check flight availability and entry requirements directly with the respective airlines and countries.
Official Immigration Statement
Indonesian Immigration is aware of the current situation and has already published official information. You can find the information here.

Soalan Lazim
1. Is my Indonesia visa still valid if my flight is postponed?
Yes. Your Indonesia visa is not tied to a fixed entry date. From the date of issue, you have 90 days to enter Indonesia. The decisive date is the “Must use before” date on your visa PDF. As long as you enter before this date, your visa remains valid.
2. Do I need to apply for a new visa if my flight was canceled?
No. A flight cancellation does not invalidate your visa. You only need to apply for a new visa if the “Must use before” date expires before you enter Indonesia.
3. Do I need to complete a new Arrival Card if my flight details change?
Yes. If your flight number, arrival date, or arrival time changes, you should complete a new Arrival Card with the updated details to avoid delays during immigration.
4. Can I currently enter Indonesia?
As of now, entry into Indonesia remains possible. Flight disruptions mainly affect routes with stopovers in the Middle East — not Indonesia itself.
5. What happens if I cannot leave Indonesia on time?
If you overstay your visa, the overstay fine is currently waived in cases related to flight disruptions (with proper documentation). However, you should arrange an extension as soon as possible. If an extension is no longer possible, consider departing to another country.
6. What is the official overstay fine in Indonesia?
The official overstay fine is 1,000,000 Indonesian Rupiah per day (approximately €60 / about $65). In the current situation, this fine is temporarily suspended if you can provide proof of flight cancellation from the airline.
7. Can I extend my Indonesia visa if my return flight is canceled?
Yes, if your visa is still eligible for extension, you should definitely apply for it. It is advisable to start the extension process as soon as it becomes clear that you cannot depart on time.
