Indonesia&#8217;s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DXMtfsiD8VQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(<strong>BMKG<\/strong>) has issued an early warning<\/a> for unusually high tides from <strong>17 to 25 April 2026<\/strong>, with the potential for coastal flooding (locally known as <em>rob<\/em>) in several areas around the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s going on and what to watch out for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why the sea is rising higher than usual<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Two things are lining up at once:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New moon on 17 April 2026<\/strong> \u2014 which already nudges tides higher than normal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Perigee on 19 April 2026<\/strong> \u2014 when the moon is closest to Earth, giving its gravitational pull extra muscle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Put those together and you get what&#8217;s sometimes called a &#8220;king tide.&#8221; Sea levels along the Bali coast are expected to climb noticeably higher than a typical high tide, and in low-lying spots that water can spill over into streets, settlements, and ports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which areas are affected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on BMKG&#8217;s water level monitoring and tidal predictions, coastal flooding is possible in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Southern coast of <strong>Jembrana<\/strong> Regency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Southern coast of <strong>Tabanan<\/strong> Regency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coast of <strong>Badung<\/strong> Regency (think Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coast of <strong>Denpasar<\/strong> City (including Sanur)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coast of <strong>Gianyar<\/strong> Regency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Southern coast of <strong>Klungkung<\/strong> Regency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Timing varies from day to day and area to area \u2014 it&#8217;s not all happening at once. The flooding tends to hit hardest around peak high tide, so if you&#8217;re near the beach, that&#8217;s the window to be aware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who should pay attention<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Coastal flooding during king tides typically affects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ports and loading\/unloading activity<\/strong> \u2014 ferry schedules to Nusa Penida, Lembongan, or Lombok can be disrupted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coastal settlements and businesses<\/strong> \u2014 beachfront villas, warungs, and walkways can see water pushing further inland than usual.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Salt farmers and inland fisheries<\/strong> \u2014 traditional salt pans and fish ponds can get inundated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re a tourist, it&#8217;s mostly a matter of not being caught off guard at the beach during peak tide.
